DALLAS, TEXAS – Muslims at the University of Texas in Dallas were horrified after discovering copies of the Quran had been dumped in a toilet.

A student found two copies of the Islamic religious text in the men’s restroom at the campus’ student union and reported the incident immediately to campus police.

The Muslim Student Association at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) has condemned the ‘hateful’ act, the University’s student- run website reported.

The Mercury reports that Jonathan Schuler, the head of the SG legislative affairs committee, discovered the Qurans in the bathrooms after the Student Government meeting. Schuler came to the office and asked the senators what they were supposed to do.

“I was appalled. It made a lot of the hate I had been hearing and seeing on national news real, and very present,” he said.

Sammy Lutes, a neuroscience senior who serves as a senator on the legislative affairs committee, immediately took pictures of the incident as evidence.

“I was just really shocked. And I was kind of in disbelief for a moment. I didn’t believe that was a real thing that must have happened,” Lutes said.

Well, it happened.

“In itself, I think it is an isolated incident not part of a larger effort. But I still think it is extremely frightening. I think that administration should really address the situation of Islamophobia and hate on campus,” Lutes said.

The police were called and the Qurans were removed from the toilet.

Mohammad Syed, president of the Muslim Student Association, said the group has received ‘support and appreciation’ from fellow students since the incident, while the student government said the incident does not reflect the student community at UTD.

So there you go.

I’ll just leave this right here…
