Today, authorities say at least 26 people were killed in a bloody clash of the armed gangs in northern Mexico.

Members of the La Linea gang and a faction of the Sinaloa cartel were involved in the incident, Chihuahua state prosecutors’ spokesman Felix Gonzalez said.

AP reports that Gonzalez tells Milenio television that the gunfight occurred early Wednesday morning in the town of Las Varas, about 185 miles northwest of the state capital. He says investigators are still at the remote scene in the mountainous region known for marijuana and opium poppy production.

Another state prosecutors’ spokesman, Eduardo Esparza said police and soldiers came under fire when they arrived at the scene and three suspected gunmen were detained. All the dead were adult males, and at least 20 rifles were found at the scene, he said.

He said gunmen from the two groups were apparently responsible for the killing of two state police officers about 10 days earlier.

Mexico is experiencing its highest murder total in at least 20 years as splintered drug cartels battle for territory.

It’s important to note that Mexican drug cartels have been known to carry off their dead after clashes so there could, in theory, be many more scumbags that were killed.

One can only hope.

God Bless.
