CAROLINA BEACH, NC  — Police are being shot at by at least one person with a long rifle. So far no injuries have been reported. Carolina Beach Elementary School is on lock down. 

Traffic in the area has been blocked and rerouted. Anyone in the area is asked to stay indoors.

One person is in custody according to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and officers are searching the area for more suspects.

According to tweets from New Hanover County Schools, Bus 299 from the school were rerouted to Anderson Elementary, where parents could pick up students. Buses from Murray Middle School and Ashley High School that were headed to Carolina Beach are being held at the schools until further notice.
