FoxNews – Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has ordered all Confederate flags removed from the state Capitol grounds, a spokesman told Fox News.

The decision comes as leaders in several states consider whether to remove Confederate flags and monuments in their capitals, in the wake of the Charleston, S.C., mass shooting.

The confessed shooter was seen in photos with the Confederate flag, renewing debate over whether that symbol of the Civil War South should be done away with.

On Monday, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for the flag to be removed from Statehouse grounds in Columbia, S.C. Haley would need to get state legislators to vote on that decision, however.

Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., also said Wednesday that he does not support the Confederate emblem remaining on the Mississippi state flag.

“After reflection and prayer, I now believe our state flag should be put in a museum and replaced by one that is more unifying to all Mississippians,” he said in a statement.

He added: “This is an issue to be decided by the legislature and other state government officials and not dictated by Washington. If I can be part of a process to achieve consensus within our state, I would welcome the opportunity to participate.”
