On Monday, known fake news and leftist propaganda peddler – The New York Times published a story saying there are concerns that the Trump administration could suppress what is known as the National Climate Assessment, a project of the U.S. Global Change Research Program.

The story was entitled – Scientists fear Trump will Dismiss Blunt Climate Report – and the story referenced supposed drafts of a report that was not yet available to the public, however, the NYT claimed a copy had been made available to them. The article also stated “those who challenge scientific data on human-caused climate change” are worried the report will be publicly released.”

It seems like an awful lot of fear mongering went into the writing of this article by the NYT and what makes it even more humorous is the scientists that worked on and drafted the report are pushing back against the nonsense that NYT has published. They claim the report in the version obtained and published in its entirety by the NYT has been available for the public online for months.

A website known to archive published online content says it downloaded the report from the Environmental Protection Agency’s website in January 2017. So much for an unpublished draft huh NYT?

Bob Kopp, a Climate Scientist at Rutgers University, as well as one of the lead authors of the report in question, noted the draft was published on the site during the public comment period but was later removed when that period was over.  However, the document remained online in archive format.

Yet another scientist and author on the report, Katharine Hayhoe, a professor at Texas Tech who leads the school’s Climate Science Center also took to social media to point out just how ludicrous the assertations made by the NYT were regarding a leak of this report.

Good golly, BBC asked me if I leaked our climate sci report to the media. I said, NO–why bother?! It was publicly available during review.

She also pointed out that the Third Order Draft of Climate Science Special Report is still available via the National Academy of Sciences Public Access File, on request. Yet the NYT used an archived and older version of the report, claiming a “leak” from some unknown source.

White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders stated of the story –

“As others have pointed out – and The New York Times should have noticed – drafts of this report have been published and made widely available online months ago during the public comment period,” Sanders said. “The White House will withhold comment on any draft report before its scheduled release date.”

The NYT cites anonymous scientists with wild claims of “concerned” supression of this report except NO ONE said any such thing, scientist or otherwise, nor was the report in question in anyway supressed as the NYT would like people to believe.  The NYT story makes the audacious and completely ficticious claim, “It directly contradicts claims by President Trump and members of his Cabinet who say that the human contribution to climate change is uncertain, and that the ability to predict the effects is limited.”

The story also claimed that National Academy of Sciences has signed off on the draft, but scientists are “awaiting permission from the Trump administration to release it.” Yet the draft was readily available online and had been for months for anyone that wanted to read it. Additionally, Kopp points out that the review deadline in question for the final version to be approved by the Trump administration is not until August 18.
