Living off the grid will soon be status quo…

Tesla is working on a battery that can generate and store its own power through solar panels. If Elon Musk delivers on his promise, you could be in for a battery that could run a house for a month maybe even two!

“We are going to unveil the Tesla home battery, the consumer battery that would be for use in people’s houses or businesses fairly soon,” CEO Elon Musk said, according to Bloomberg.

On Tesla’s earnings call, CTO JB Straubel said the company would most likely hold an event in the next “month or two” to reveal the battery, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript. The battery would enter production in “about six months or so.”

At this moment homes have to remain on a solar grid because there has not been a way to store extra power for lean hours. If given a relatively cheap and reliable battery to hold the power needed, there will not be any reason to be connected to an inefficient power grid that is regularly failing whenever it snows or rains too hard!

But, if people are generating their own power how will these big companies continue making their billions?! With a battery sucking up the extra energy, the companies will not be able to charge the consumers anything at all!

This battery could solve a lot of environmental, economic and logistical problems. Let’s hope nothing falls through!
