With all the shooting and killing of police officers one question has come to many people’s minds- are police officers being targeted? With all the random shootings, it’s looking like it’s true. This all started with Ferguson and trickled down from there. Here are some of the incidents that have happened this month.

Two Los Angeles police officers were shot at Sunday night, December 28, while they drove their patrol car in the southern part of the city, police said. The officers returned fire, authorities said, and no one was injured. One suspect was arrested and two weapons, including a rifle, were recovered. Another remains at large, prompting a manhunt that lasted for hours and involved about 100 officers, LAPD Capt. Lillian Carranza said.

There was also a second incident over the December 29th weekend in which police were fired at, this one in Florida on Sunday morning. Someone fired three bullets at two Florida deputies with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office as they sat in their patrol car. “Both deputies reported hearing the whizzing sound of each projectile as they flew by,” the sheriff’s office said. “Deputies did not see the suspect or the vehicle from which the shots were fired.” Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the person or persons who fired at the officers. Pasco County authorities are also searching for someone who spray-painted, “Shoot MP Cop” on a road barrier in Meadow Pointe, a subdivision.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. Dec. 21, when Kondek arrived at a Tarpon Springs apartment to investigate a noise complaint. Parilla, 23, shot Kondek, 45, above his bulletproof vest, police said. Parilla sped away but was captured shortly afterward. Kondek, who was married with six children, was killed four days before Christmas. At his funeral Saturday, his 15-year-old daughter, Aleena, said, “He wasn’t afraid to love us more than he loved himself.

Two police officers sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn were shot at point-blank range and killed on December 20th by a man who, officials said, had traveled to the city from Baltimore vowing to kill officers. The suspect then committed suicide with the same gun, the authorities said. The officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, were in the car near Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant in the shadow of a tall housing project when the gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, walked up to the passenger-side window and assumed a firing stance

With the needless shootings that have happened, wives have lost their husbands, children have lost their fathers, and parents have lost their sons. This has to stop, don’t punish innocent officers for the actions of a few bad apples. The corrupt cops need to be held accountable for their actions. The innocent need to be left alone.
