Black Actor Calls On ALL AFRICAN-AMERICANS To Boycott Working… There’s One HUMONGOUS Problem

Actor, Isaiah Washington, formerly of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’,  is calling on black people to protest the recent police shootings of two black men in an unusual way.  He took to Facebook on Tuesday to suggest that black people across the United States boycott their jobs on Monday.  Simply put, Washington thinks that black people not showing up for work on Monday is a way to show the world that black lives matter in the wake of what he terms as police brutality. I think it’s more likely a good way to end up unemployed.  How about you?

Imagine if every single African American in the United States that was really fed up with being angry, sad and disgusted, would pick ONE DAY to simply ‘stay at home’ from every single job, work site, sports arena and government office in the United States of America.”

He followed his post with a series of hashtags including #RIPTerenceCrutcher  — Terence Crutcher – age 40 – was killed this week by a police officer in Tulsa, Oklahoma after his vehicle broke down and was blocking a portion of the street.  The Officer involved, Betty Shelby, was charged yesterday with 1st-degree manslaughter. Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker stated that investigators found PCP in Crutcher’s SUV but did not determine whether he was under the influence of the drug at the time of the shooting or if Officer Shelby knew that he was under the influence at the time of the shooting.

Washington also used the hashtag #HandsUpDontShoot, which references the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, which we know to be a false statement as he had initiated an attack on police officer Darren Wilson after he had been identified as a suspect in a robbery. Brown grabbed Officer Wilson’s gun and hit him in the face.

Major protests have broken out in the streets of Charlotte, N.C. all week after 43-year-old Keith Scott was shot and killed by a police officer. Both of them were black men but much as was the case in the recent Milwaukee, WI police officer shooting, both parties were black but white people are the ones being protested against and attacked. Scott also refused to put down his firearm after being told to do so repeatedly by the police.

Washington also created his own hashtag in an effort to promote his proposed method of protesting an end to the violence: #StayAtHomeSeptember262016. The tag started to pick up traction on the web after the actor’s lengthy post to his thousands of followers on Facebook. I find it interesting that an actor who likely isn’t terribly concerned about his financial situation would propose to tell black America that they need to stay home from their jobs on Monday, to risk losing their financial stability and income that pays for the necessities of life and potentially their family, in a population of people that has a large percentage that is lower income or on some form of assistance.

It seems counterproductive and frankly a downright detrimental way to protest perceived injustices. There are non-violent ways to protest that would accomplish a great deal more but frankly, I think folks might need to get their facts straight first.
