Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned Friday that military action against North Korea was “on the table” if the country continued to develop its weapons program.

“If they elevate the threat of their weapons program to a level that we believe requires action then that option is on the table,” he said at a press conference in South Korea.

“Certainly we do not want for things to get to a military conflict,” he added. “But obviously if North Korea takes actions that threaten the South Korean forces or our own forces then that would be met with an appropriate response.”

“Let me be very clear — the policy of strategic patience has ended.”~Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

The KCNA (Korean Central News Agency) reported that the DPRK Foreign Minster responded to Tillerson’s comments with a direct message to the U.S..

If the businessmen-turned-U.S. authorities thought that they would frighten [North Korea], they would soon know that their method would not work.  North Korea is not frightened by U.S., our regime has the will and capability to fully respond to any war the U.S. would like to ignite.”

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Hayley said North Korea was the “number one threat” to the U.S. and that military action was an option if there was no co-operation.

Tillerson said that the U.S. has provided $1.3 billion in assistance to the authoritarian regime since 1995, but “in return North Korea has detonated nuclear weapons and dramatically increased its launches of ballistic missiles to threaten America and our allies.”

“The world will soon witness what eventful significance the … recent ground jet test of Korean-style high-thrust engine will carry,” KCNA said Tuesday. “The nuclear force of [North Korea] is the treasured sword of justice and the most reliable war deterrence.”

It has been clear that North Korea intends on striking the U.S. and its allies and sanctions and harsh words are useless on the regime.  The time for politics and diplomatic reason has long since passed, now we are witnessing the build up of U.S. forces in South Korea.

This conflict should have been shut down years ago and in a hurry but it was allowed to play out and heavily in favor of the DPRK.  President Trump really has no other options but to go in heavy and go in fast before this turns into a nuclear strike by North Korea.
