SAN ANTONIO – The Department of Homeland Security is conducting an investigation into a suspicious package left at a historic courthouse in downtown San Antonio Wednesday.
Moments before a loud boom shook downtown buildings at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, police frantically ushered media members away from the Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse.
According to Officer Douglas Greene with the San Antonio Police Department, Homeland Security was the lead agency investigating the scene at the Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and United States Courthouse in the 600 block of Houston Street, KENS5 reports.
Three men have been detained and a portion of downtown around Alamo Plaza is closed as Homeland Security agents, the San Antonio Police Department and a bomb squad work the scene, MYSA reports.
According to police, a suspicious package was left inside the federal building in the 600 block of E. Houston Street.
SAPD is asking people in shops around the area to go inside and close the doors.
Homeland Security is leading the investigation, with SAPD providing “perimeter security,” according to a news release. The SAPD Bomb Squad is also assisting.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is available.
