Minnesota Sen. Al Franken finally did it.

In recent days, there’s been speculation that the incumbent Senator would be resigning amid a flurry of accusations of sexual impropriety, and he finally caved to the pressure on Thursday. During a speech on the floor of the Senate, Franken took an unapologetic and crass tone as he announced he’d be stepping down from his position.

““Today I am announcing that in the coming weeks, I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate,” Franken says.”

Franken’s resignation speech was full of whataboutisms and deflection, making it clear he doesn’t believe he’s guilty of anything.

“I haven’t heard anything resembling contrition from Al Franken. If he’s that innocent, he should stay in office. Otherwise he’s either a liar or a coward.”

Franken also spoke of the “irony” that he is resigning while President Trump serves in the White House and Roy Moore maintains party support, given allegations against them.”

Worse yet, he took shots at both Roy Moore and President Trump, despite the fact there hasn’t been any credible evidence against either that they did anything wrong.

Meanwhile, on top of photographic evidence against Franken, there’s been at least a dozen different women who’ve all accused him of groping or some other form of sexual misconduct.

“Dear Sen. Al Franken, You were caught red “hands” by an actual picture of you doing the deed. It wasn’t just accusations, there was actually evidence that we could see with our own eyes. I’ll leave with this: A picture is worth a resignation.”

For what it’s worth, Franken said that while he’s resigning, he’s not “giving up” his voice, whatever that means.

“”Let me be clear, I may be resigning my seat but I am not giving up my voice. I will continue to stand up for the things I believe in as a citizen and as an activist,” Sen. Franken says”

According to reports, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is likely to tap Lt. Gov. Tina Smith to replace Franken when he finally leaves office.
