The National Football League has not had a good couple of years lately, thanks in large part to the controversy started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick started bowing the knee during the National Anthem played before games as a form of protest against “racism,” caring little for how his actions disrespected those who served, fought, bled, and died to preserve the freedom and liberty he enjoyed to make millions for playing a game.

Ratings have tanked as a result of this behavior spreading to other players and attendance at games has gone down as well, but rather than serve as a sharp rebuke indicating it was time for the NFL to shift directions, they opted instead to go the opposite way and risk alienating even more of their audience.

According to Fox News, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell agreed to pay $90 million of the league’s money to social justice causes that were supported by players. This move was met with heavy criticism, as many believe it was done just to appease and quiet down “activist athletes,” especially those who are infamous for taking a knee.

Here’s Fox with more:

“We have a unique opportunity here for NFL players and for NFL owners to work together,” Goodell said, according to NBC Sports. “This is a result of unprecedented dialogue and cooperation between NFL players, ownership and our office over the last year.”

Goodell spoke with Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins and retired wide receiver Anquan Boldin, founders of the Players Coalition.

Boldin said the league’s commitment to players’ causes isn’t an indication that players would stop protesting. The kneeling has drawn steady criticism from President Donald Trump as well as football fans across America.

“This deal for us was never about telling guys what they can or can’t do. It was never about telling guys that they can’t protest or to stop protesting. This agreement was the NFL listening to the concerns of its players and responding in a like matter,” Boldin said to NBC Sports.

“We want to take money out of sending people to jail and put it toward education and opportunities for economic advancement,” Jenkins added.

Jim Hanson, president of Security Studies Group and a shareholder in the Green Bay Packers, wrote a piece critical of Goodell’s move, saying, “…The owners will get nothing from the players in return. No promise to stop disrespecting the national anthem or any other meaningful concession.”

This is obviously an issue close to Hanson’s heart as he himself served in the U.S. Army Special Forces.

What makes this thing really pathetic is that basically, since none of the money is coming from new sources, they’re just going to take money from existing causes like breast cancer awareness, and be put in the new programs.

In other words, let’s appease the social justice warriors and their fake outrage by throwing money at their charities while actual organizations doing good in the world get neglected.

This most definitely could spell the end of the NFL, at least when it comes to football being the most watched sport in our country. Hopefully, if they take a hit in the wallet, they’ll straighten themselves out and stop catering to crybaby athletes.
