As you’ve probably heard, Facebook weighed in today with their plans for ongoing gun sales on the social media site.

 

 

Despite pressure from anti-gun groups such as Moms Demand Action and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Facebook has announced they will not ban gun related pages and won’t even outright ban gun sales on the site between private parties.

Facebook did announce a series of education and enforcement policies they will begin implementing in the near future to better govern legal gun sales and prevent illegal ones. Of course, the Moms and Mayors are declaring this a win for their side, despite the fact that Facebook isn’t really doing too much of anything.

The NRA weighed in on the decision,

“The NRA enjoys 150 times more support on Facebook than Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns. That’s why Bloomberg and the gun control groups he funds tried to pressure Facebook into shutting down discussion of Second Amendment issues on its social media platforms. Bloomberg failed. NRA members and our supporters will continue to have a platform to exercise their First Amendment rights in support of their Second Amendment freedoms. – Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA Institute for Legislative Action.”

As mentioned, the NRA and many other pro-gun social media pages enjoy far more influence than Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action on Facebook. In fact, our Facebook page has nearly as many fans as Moms Demand Action and far more than Mayors Against Illegal Guns and we are just a niche blog.

The NRA, nor any group representing the firearms, hunting, or shooting industries was included in the talks.
