The town was also the scene of a violent clash between extremist factions of both the left and the right on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The questions on everyone’s mind are numerous but can be simplified with how did we get here?  What exactly caused this powder keg to erupt like this?

Charlottesville residents need not look much further than Charlottesville’s Vice Mayor, Wes Bellamy.

According to reports, the White Nationalists or the Alt-Right were given a permit from the city of Charlottesville to protest the removal of the Robert E. Lee equestrian statue at Emancipation Park, formerly known as Lee Park. The entire park was cordoned off with no street access whatsoever.  That meant anyone that was present at Lee Park would have to park and subsequently walk to the park from where their ride was located.

Just down the street, is Justice Park, formerly Jackson Park.  The Alt-Left or Antifa and Black Lives Matter were given a permit to counter protest the Alt-right factions in Jackson Park.  The Alt Left groups were cordoned off with one side street access. From all appearances and reports, it appears the city government blocked the right in, with the intention of throwing a match to light an explosive situation and instigate further issue. The parks are located approximately two blocks from one another.

The Robert E. Lee equestrian statue has existed peacefully at Lee Park in downtown Charlottesville for over 90 years. The park continues to remain much the same as ever, popular.

Bellamy is the current sitting vice mayor of the city and it appears he is quite the racist bigot, inciting hatred and misogyny as his Tweets bear out.

When serial killer Jesse Matthews Jr. was captured for murdering several young white women, Bellamy reflected on just how it would reflect on his race as a whole, stating to a Roanoke reporter –

“It’s just tough being an African-American male now.”

Nevermind that there were actual victims that left behind grieving families.

When Colin Kaepernick raised a ruckus by refusing to stand for the National Anthem during a 49ers game with the NFL, rather than being helpful, Bellamy chose to exacerbate the situation.  He showed up to badmouth the Charlottesville Police Department rather than attempting to offer solutions in his capacity as a city leader.

In yet another disgusting tweet, Bellamy answered a question prompted by another social media user, “Does it make males uncomfortable wen girls are so upfront about sex??” with “It only makes faggots uncomfortable …”

These fly in the face of the message of so-called unity that Bellamy was pushing via Twitter immediately following the shooting of members of the gay community at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando that left 49 dead.

On June 13 Bellamy tweeted –

“I don’t care if you’re gay, straight, trams, black, white, blue, or purple … YOU DESERVE EQUAL RIGHTS AND YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE!”

By contrast in December 2009, Bellemy tweeted –

“I DONT LIKE WHIT PEOPLE SO I HATE WHITE SNOW!!!!! FML!!!!”

Bellemy also tweeted with comparisons of white women to the devil and was highly critical of white women in sundresses. Bellemy also tweets advocating sexual assault and rape –  see a tweet from October 4, 2011.

There were also multiple other tweets that liked white women to rape accusation.  Yet another tweet said white women “smell like future assault charges n deli meat.”

Yet this man served on the school board in Abermarle County until December and was a computer science teacher at Albermarle High School. In March, Governor Terry McAuliffe appointed Bellamy to the State Board of Education. In November 2016 Bellemy was elected to the City Council where he currently presides as Vice Mayor.

Bellemy’s disgusting tweets prompted him to resign from the school board and his teaching post at Albemarle High School.

Bellamy also serves as vice president of the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia and is president of the Young Black Professional Network of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville/Albemarle Alliance of Black School Educators, according to his biography on the City Council website.

He has been condemned for using his power to harass local business owners who criticize Black Lives Matter. He led a protest against local restaurant owner Douglas Muir due to his interpretation of the BLM philosophy as “radical.” Bellemy used his position as a city councilman to picket a private business, using his government authority to silence another’s freedom to speak.

Bellamy has stated he intends to target the legacy of Former President Thomas Jefferson, founder of the University of Virginia.  His home, Monticello, is located in the area.

Wes Bellamy spoke to local CBS affiliate CBS 19 –

“Right now, we are going to be looking at the Confederate statues, but in terms of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson, and things of that nature, I think those are conversations we do need to have here in the city of Charlottesville.”

Given the fact that both factions were granted permits by the city of Charlottesville to host an event on the same day in park 2 blocks apart where the right was completely cordoned off with no street access, yet the left had street access and the actions and blatantly racist comments from the Vice Mayor himself, his intentions to go after yet additional history related to America’s founding and with nothing whatsoever to do with the Confederacy – it seems Bellemy’s intentions were to create an environment where a violent confrontation would take place, thus forcing those above him, along with the mainstream media, to react in a particular fashion of his choosing.  He is playing Pied Piper and many are simply marching along.
