Currently, the U.S. has about 8,500 troops in Afghanistan, backed by about 5,000 troops from NATO members.

Meanwhile, Army Times reports that more than 5,700 soldiers will deploy this summer and fall, with some going to Europe and others to Afghanistan, the Army announced Thursday.

About 4,000 of those soldiers — from the 1st Infantry Division’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team — will deploy this fall to Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

About 1,700 soldiers from two different units will deploy to Afghanistan, the Army also announced Thursday.

We have our military heroes in our hearts and in our prayers.
