Over the weekend, Hillary Clinton dismissed a new effort to investigate her dealings with the Russians as “debunked,” all while professing her innocence, which is easy to do when the FBI director is in your pocket.

However, now that she no longer has any pull in Congress or the FBI, she’s going to have a hard time explaining why House Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy announced Tuesday morning a joint investigation into the dismissal of charges against her by the FBI.

According to the Daily Caller, there’s still a “host of outstanding questions” regarding how the Justice Department and FBI handled the criminal investigation. They also want to get to the bottom of why the FBI publicly announced its investigation into Clinton while failing to disclose one the Trump campaign.

“Our justice system is represented by a blind-folded woman holding a set of scales. Those scales do not tip to the right or the left; they do not recognize wealth, power, or social status,” Goodlatte and Gowdy said in a statement Tuesday. “The impartiality of our justice system is the bedrock of our republic and our fellow citizens must have confidence in its objectivity, independence, and even handedness. The law is the most equalizing force in this country. No entity or individual is exempt from oversight.”

“The Committees will review these decisions and others to better understand the reasoning behind how certain conclusions were drawn. Congress has a constitutional duty to preserve the integrity of our justice system by ensuring transparency and accountability of actions taken,” the congressmen wrote.

Their reason for investigating isn’t’ exactly unfounded, either. President Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey over his mishandling of the investigation, and we’ve since learned that he had already drafted a letter exonerating the former Secretary of State prior to even concluding the investigation into how she handled classified information.
