House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and was moved to an inpatient rehabilitation facility after more than a month of surgeries.

Scalise, R-La., had been treated at MedStar Washington Hospital since June 14, when he and four others were shot during a congressional baseball practice.

Here is the official statement:

“Congressman Steve Scalise has made excellent progress in his recovery from a life-threatening gunshot wound six weeks ago.  Yesterday, he was discharged from MedStar Washington Hospital Center and is now beginning a period of intensive inpatient rehabilitation.”

“He is in good spirits and is looking forward to his return to work once he completes rehabilitation.”

“He and his family are grateful for the care he received from the trauma team as well as the other doctors, nurses, and staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center.”

“The family also appreciates the outpouring of prayers and support during this time.”

Scalise underwent multiple surgeries for his injuries. Doctors and Scalise’s family were hopeful that he would be moved to the rehabilitation facility several weeks ago, but he contracted an infection and was re-admitted to the intensive care unit earlier this month, Fox News reports.

Scalise is expected to be in the rehabilitation facility for weeks recovering.

As AMERICA’S FREEDOM FIGHTERS previously reported, Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single wound from a rifle, entering in the area of his left hip. The bullet traveled straight across toward the other hip, in what we call a transpelvic gunshot wound.  The round fragmented, and caused significant damage to bones, internal organs and blood vessels.

Scalise, the House majority whip was one of five people shot when a left-wing Bernie Sanders supporting extremist opened fire as the Republican team practiced in Alexandria, Virginia.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scalise family and with the two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner, House GOP aide Zack Barth and lobbyist Matt Mika.

We will keep you updated. We ask for you all to pray for Mr. Scalise and his family.

And while you are at it, please pray for America…

God Bless.
