A Dallas firefighter was reportedly shot Monday morning and police were hunting a suspect amid an “active shooter” scenario. The firefighter who was shot is currently in surgery.

First responders received reports about a possibly suicidal man around 11:30 a.m. local time and, when, officials got to the scene, they spotted a man with a rifle, FOX4 reported.

WFAA-TV reported that the shooter opened fire on paramedics near Interstate 30 and Dolphin Road, and possibly more firefighters had been shot.

Police surrounded a home across from the main entrance of the Dallas Fire Rescue Academy, according to WFAA-TV.

The department requested a citywide assist, meaning it asked for the help of any available officer. Dozens of law enforcement vehicles were at the scene early Monday afternoon.

“There is another active shooter in Dallas. This time a fireman has been shot, and officers are pinned down by gunfire. Please pray!” the Dallas Police Association tweeted.

Area residents were asked to take cover.

The city later released a statement that said the person shot was a paramedic who was in a city vehicle. The vehicle was struck by gunfire as police and firefighters responded to a 911 call in the area.

Police are reportedly looking for a bald black male, wearing dark green shirt and jeans. He may be armed with a rifle, CBS DFW reports.

The situation is still unfolding at this time.

Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this senseless situation.

Let’s hope they get this animal off the streets before he kills someone.

Useless thug.

God bless.
