A body found in the waters off Brooklyn, N.Y., has been identified as that of the son of a New York mobster, according to police officials.

Carmine Carini Jr., 35, was found Saturday in the water near his Mill Basin home, with a cinder block bound to his legs with an electrical cord and his body wrapped in a blue tarp sealed with duct tape.

The New York Post reported that Carini’s corpse was found in cement overshoes and preliminary reports show that he died of blunt-force trauma to the head and suffered multiple stab wounds to the arms and legs.

Police say Carini’s father was a member of the infamous Colombo crime family. Carmine Carini Sr. spent almost a quarter-century in prison for the murder of a record-shop owner in 1983 but was later cleared after two mob informants revealed that his cousins were responsible for the killing, the New York Daily News reported.

He returned to prison a year later after a number of home robberies.

It is believed that Carmine Jr. had no ties to the mob, the New York City Police Department’s chief of detectives, Robert Boyce, said at a news conference Tuesday.

The younger Carmine Carini did have his own rap sheet however.

He was arrested for robbery in 2003, 2004 and in June last year and also had a drug-possession charge in 2010, according to police records.

He spent five years in the slammer for the 2003 robberies, in which he committed 10 muggings in an hour by driving around Bergen Beach, Sheepshead Bay and Gravesend in a van and threatening strangers for money with a machete or a bat, according to a report at the time.

He was released in 2009 but was back behind bars again in 2011 and 2014.

He was most recently released in 2015, and his dad was freed from federal prison in July this year.
