The ammo industry just can’t catch a break. USA Brass is a company that buys, cleans and sells spent brass which is then used in ammunition reloading.

FBI and EPA agents decided a raid of the company was in order after it was discovered that several of their employees tested positive for elevated levels of lead.

According to NBC Montana,

Around 12:30 p.m. Agent Bert Marsden identified himself as the resident agent in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Division in Montana. He told NBC Montana agents were expected on scene through the evening, and gave a short statement about the investigation.

“We are investigating alleged violations of environmental law. An investigation takes as long as it takes, and I can’t provide any details as it relates to that,” said Marsden.

 

Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, workers found the company overexposed workers to lead and failed to provide basic safeguards to reduce lead exposure, including breathing protection and protective clothing.

Wouldn’t an OSHA inspection and citation normally take care of a problem like this? Can’t we find something better for the FBI to do? Also, did the FBI/EPA agents really need to be wearing tac vests during a raid to investigate a possible environmental issue?

Don’t get me wrong, exposing employees to dangerous levels of lead is a bad thing, but is the heavy federal law enforcement presence really necessary here?
