The New York Times has reported that Darren Wilson, the police officer who fatally shot an 18-year-old in Ferguson has told investigators that he was pinned in his vehicle and feared for his life as he and Michael Brown struggled over his gun.

This is the first that we have heard from the officer ‘officially’ and many details came out during the testimony before the St. Louis County grand jury. Officer Wilson was not required to testify but chose to presumably to get his side of the story out loud and clear. He wanted the grand jury to understand that he was fighting for his life and frankly the details of the struggle hold a lot of weight in this situation.

Several witnesses also testified and some say that Brown appeared to have his arms in the air when he was shot and others testified Brown appeared to be charging the officer.

The decision on if charges will be filed against Officer Wilson is expected to be announced in mid November.
