The autopsy showed that Keeler had a disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that causes thickening of the heart muscle.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pound defensive lineman died Feb. 20 of a fatal irregular heartbeat, the Clark County coroner’s office said in a statement.

His death was ruled natural.

Las Vegas police began an investigation that remained open until the medical examiner’s final results were released.

The case is now considered closed.

Keeler, who played for the Rebels made the academic All-Mountain West team with a 3.8 grade-point average, UNLV head coach Barry Odom said.

“We are devastated to have lost a member of our Rebel family,” Odom said in a statement.

‘While I had the honor of knowing Ryan for only a couple of months, he already stood out to our coaching staff as an incredible person, student and teammate.

“Our condolences and prayers go out to Ryan’s family as we grieve along with them over this tremendous loss,” he added.

The university released an official statement Monday calling Keeler’s death “tragic and untimely” and expressing sympathy with his loved ones, teammates and friends.

“Our hearts go out to all of Ryan’s family and friends along with his Rebel teammates.”

Originally from Chicago, Keeler had joined UNLV after transferring from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Longtime Rutgers coach Greg Schiano continued the tributes, hailing the human behind the helmet, Daily Mail reported.

“From getting to know him as a recruit, to actually getting to coach him, what stood out most was his passion.

“His passion for his teammates and his passion for the game of football. We send our love and prayers to Ryan’s family and friends during this difficult time.’

“Ryan was definitely preparing for a big year this year, but more important than that he was honestly a great person,’ Keeler’s former teammate Austin Ajiake told Fox5.

“Never complained, had a great attitude, showed up and worked every day. He was the kind of teammate you wanted around you… I am broken for his family and offer them my condolences and prayers.”
