PARIS — French investigators are probing into a Las Vegas ‘tech’ party that President Emmanuel Macron attended when he was a French government minister.

The Paris prosecutor’s office announced that a formal judicial inquiry has been opened Friday into the case after a preliminary anti-corruption probe into the company that organized the 2016 trip to the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas.

The inquiry is for “favoritism,” but it doesn’t name a suspected perpetrator yet, leaving it to investigators to determine later who might be at fault.

The company that organized the “French Tech Night” event, advertising firm Havas, is suspected of having done so without undergoing open tender procedures, among other suspected problems, Fox News reported.

It’s unclear whether Macron himself was aware and the investigation doesn’t target him directly. It is problematic, however, for his labor minister, Muriel Penicaud.

Penicaud directed an agency under the economy ministry — then headed by Macron — that reportedly signed off on the Havas contract.

Penicaud has acknowledged a “procedural error” in the process but says she then launched an internal and external audit and addressed the issue.

Havas argues that it was not required to compete for the contract because it signed an umbrella agreement with Business France in 2015 for promoting French business that includes such events.

It follows allegations earlier this year that the tender process for the organisation of the party was not conducted properly, Express reported.

The formal judicial Inquiry is a significant blow to Mr Macron’s reformist efforts, as it implicates his cabinet’s Labour minister, and casts doubt over her role in organizing this high profile trip to the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.

The probe comes just days after another key Macron aide – his campaign manager Richard Ferrand – was questioned for seven hours as part of a preliminary inquiry into alleged nepotism.

The Las Vegas event is question was organised by Business France – a state body promoting French business interests abroad.

It reportedly cost almost $400,000.00 and came at a time when Mr Macron was France’s economy minister, serving under the then Socialist government of his predecessor Francois Hollande.

So there you have it. Their president is being investigated and our president is being investigated.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama committed a number of crimes and skated.

Black privilege? You bet.
