Former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the White House told him to lie to the American Public about the impact Social Security played in driving the federal deficit.

In a new memoir released yesterday, Geithner said Dan Pfeiffer, who was the White House Communications Director, asked him to “downplay” the long-term cost of Social Security spending to placate the Democratic base.

He writes: “I remember during one Roosevelt Room prep session before I appeared on the Sunday shows, I objected when Dan Pfeiffer wanted me to say Social Security didn’t contribute to the deficit. It wasn’t a main driver of our future deficits, but it did contribute.”

Geithner continued, saying the line was a “dog whistle” to liberals demonstrating the Obama Administration planned to protect Social Security.

Pfeiffer, Geithner writes in “Stress Test,” often let party politics come into play when discussing how the administration would be responding to fiscal issues.

In another example, Geithner said Pfeiffer, who is now Obama’s senior communications advisor, argued “we couldn’t afford to alienate our base and split a weakened Democratic Party in pursuit of an imaginary compromise with Republicans who didn’t want to compromise.”

It’s clear that the White House, led by Obama’s senior media hacks, will tell any lie to the American public to pursue their own reckless agenda.
