The attacker has been identified by police as Sedimar Rabbah.

A military officer reported that the attacker’s motive is still unclear but added that earlier the man had been beaten up by a gang of men who accused him of stealing a cell phone. The man returned with a grenade and blew the place up.

According to the AP, aside from kidnappings for ransom and killings by Abu Sayyaf extremists, predominantly Muslim Sulu has long been troubled by a large number of illegal guns and other weapons.

Unbelievable. All that over a freaking cell phone?
