BREAKING: MAJOR Gun Rights VICTORY In THIS State- You Will Now Be Able To…

Democrat Governor of the state of Missouri, Jay Nixon, tried his hardest to stop this from going through but it seems that the Missouri House and Senate know the meaning of “shall not be infringed.” The Missouri House and Senate voted to override Democrat Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of Senate Bill 656 yesterday, making Missouri the 11th state to reassert the right of citizens to carry a firearm for self-defense without a permission slip from the government.

The Republican-led Legislature enacted the law Wednesday by a 24-6 Senate vote and a 112-41 vote in the House. Both exceeded the two-thirds majority needed to override the veto of Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

Missouri lawmakers have overridden a veto of a wide variety of gun bills that will take away government penalties for people choosing to exercise their Constitutional rights to carry concealed, thus allowing them greater ability to defend themselves should it become necessary to do so.  This legislation will allow most of the good citizens of Missouri to carry concealed without the need for a permission slip from the government.  That also means no more training classes.

The bill known as SB 656 will also do much to provide citizens with more legal protections should they be forced to defend themselves, their loved ones, and their home – both inside and outside.

The National Rifle Association issued a celebratory statement in response to Missouri’s Congress making the veto override —

The National Rifle Association today applauded the Missouri Legislature’s veto override of Senate Bill 656, common sense self-defense legislation that was vetoed by Governor Nixon in June. This bill will improve the ability of law-abiding gun owners to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

“This is a great day for freedom in Missouri. The legislature stood strong for the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens by overriding Gov. Nixon’s misguided veto,” said Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “Despite the best efforts of Michael Bloomberg and out-of-state gun control groups to defeat the override vote, their agenda was rejected.”

Senate Bill 656 allows anyone legally allowed to possess a firearm to carry that firearm. Additionally, this bill also allows for the following enhancements and protections —

  • Expands Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground protections
  • Adds additional permit options to include extended and lifetime permits
  • Specifies that with the exception of credit card fees, no additional fee beyond $100 may be charged to process concealed carry permits
  • Allows members of the military extra time to renew their permits

Of course, Bloomberg’s nanny state, gun control advocacy group  — Demanding Moms….Oh…I mean Moms Demand Action had to weigh in with their usual drivel devoid of facts and/or any basis in reality.  They state –

The Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement condemning Missouri lawmakers for kowtowing to the gun lobby and ignoring Missouri voters by voting to override Governor Nixon’s veto of SB 656, a dangerous gun bill that dismantles Missouri’s concealed carry permit requirement and lets people—including some violent criminals, certain repeat drug offenders, and people with no firearms safety training— carry hidden, loaded handguns in public. SB 656 also upends traditional Missouri self-defense law and allows people to shoot to kill in public places, even when they can clearly and safely walk away from the danger. The bill makes Missouri the first new Stand Your Ground state since Trayvon Martin’s death.

Because criminals FOLLOW laws right??  Don’t make me laugh!  These claims are asinine and blatantly untrue. Violent felons and drug addicts are ALREADY prohibited under both state and federal law from the possession and/or ownership of any firearms. Never mind the ridiculousness of the claims that people can “shoot to kill… even when they can clearly and safely walk away from the danger.” There must be an immediate, proximate, and credible threat where you feel you or your loved one fear for your life or well being. You can’t simply shoot people just because you want to and “clearly and safely walk away.” Last I checked murder was still a crime in all 50 states — self defense is not.

Given all that has come out about Trayvon Martin and the details of how that situation unfolded, that Demanding Moms lay claim to any sort of credibility by citing that some how, some way “stand your ground” laws played any role whatsoever in the death of Trayvon, is ridiculous in the extreme. Florida’s “stand your ground” laws were never even in play in this case as traditional, self-defense was used via a court of law, despite the witch hunt and subsequent trial by public opinion of the “white-Hispanic” known as George Zimmerman. The only time the words “stand your ground” were mentioned in the trial AT all was when the jury was read boilerplate instructions that are read in all homicide trials before the jury begins deliberations.

“Stand your ground” laws have been used by minorities in self-defense cases by significant measure. It is frightening that there are people out there that give credence to groups such as Moms Demand Action.  With a little research one finds that the group is fronted by a wealthy, white woman and bankrolled by an even wealthier, white man.  It seems that for reasons unknown they want to take us back to Reconstruction era where people of color were prevented from owning firearms to defend themselves with. I find that unacceptable by any measure. ALL people deserve the ability to defend themselves, their loved ones, and their property from imminent harm.

Interesting to note, Missouri becomes the fourth state to pass a “constitutional carry” law JUST THIS YEAR.  They join Idaho, Mississippi, and West Virginia in their support for gun rights – a movement that is rapidly gaining support even among some anti-gun Democrats unwilling to risk career suicide by going against their voting constituents.
