The protesters are holding homemade signs with messages like “No ban, no wall” and “Refugees welcome.”

They are chanting – “Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here!”

The executive order took full effect on Friday evening and will be in place for up to 120 days.  It has effectively suspended entry for travelers from these 7 countries –

  • Iraq
  • Syria
  • Iran
  • Sudan
  • Libya
  • Somalia
  • Yemen

New York Governor and ardent anti-Trump supporter, Andrew Cuomo weighed in on the matter via Twitter with harsh criticism, quoting the words found on the Statue of Liberty.

Just this morning two Iraqis have already been detained at the airport.  One of the detainees was, Hameed Khalid Darweesh, is an employee of the U.S. government working on their behalf in Iraq. In spite of the fact he was later released and allowed to continue into the U.S. on his own without hindrance, protests have broken out using this detainment as an example to argue that the executive order is no good if people with legitimate business in the U.S. are being detained as well.

However, many other Americans feel this executive order is President Trump’s efforts to make America safer, citing that this is most certainly not the first time this type of action has been taken by a U.S. president. It seems those sorts of facts are irrelevant to the protesters though as they continue to make promises to “use every tool at their disposal” to fight this temporary travel ban on Muslims.

There was at least one sign even calling for President Trump’s impeachment and for deportation of the first lady.  Apparently, there is a significant lack of understanding among this group as to the difference between a legal immigrant and naturalized citizen and a refugee or illegal immigrant.

Lawyer and refugee advocate Jacki Esposito is one of the organizers of the protest and she had a message for President Trump herself, stating – “We’re here to tell Trump that we are not going anywhere. Today is the beginning of a long opposition from us and our neighbors all over the country.”

Maybe President Trump will remind her of her opposition when we are attacked by radical Muslim terrorists again on American soil.
