Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reveals in her new book that Barack Obama’s team asked her to attack Alaska Governor Sarah Palin after Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) chose her as his running mate in the 2008 presidential race.

“[The Obama camp] immediately issued a dismissive statement and reached out to me in hopes I would follow suit,” she wrote. “But I wouldn’t.”

The details of the event have been published by CBS, which has already obtained a copy of the book scheduled for release on June 10.

“I was not going to attack Palin just for being a woman appealing for support from other women,” she wrote. “I didn’t think it made political sense, and it didn’t feel right. So I said no.”

“Democrats are right — scouring records of a female candidate is just politics of personal destruction, and for the media to engage in it would be unfair, unethical, and absolutely UNPRECEDENTED,” wrote Palin sarcastically during the controversy, referring to the endless attacks she faced from Democrats and the media.

Palin has also addressed Clinton’s news that she is expecting a grandchild.

“Just knowing that her daughter Chelsea is pregnant with a baby – it’s a real baby! It’s not some disposable something,” Palin said. “Those who… are in this position now as a parent or grandparent, they realize that sanctity of life – how innocent, how precious it is. And of all places, it should be in the womb that these babies are protected.”
