Police arrested Jonathan Adams, 25, of Minneapolis; Linwood Kaine, 24, of Minneapolis; Glenn Kimball, 22, of Minneapolis; Isabell Kimball, 26, of Minneapolis and Haley Ryan, 23, of Webster, Minn., on suspicion of rioting charges on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Police said they were part of an anti-Trump group who disrupted a pro-President Trump rally at the state Capitol in St. Paul.

Linwood Kaine was also charged with resisting arrest.  It took three police officers and being dosed with pepper spray to subdue Kaine’s youngest son after he was identified as one of the “peaceful” protesters who used fireworks and smoke bombs to disrupt a rally in support of President Donald Trump at the Minnesota State Capitol. One 61-year-old Trump supporter claims that she was hit in the head by the remnants of the smoke bomb.

St. Paul police spokesman Scott Linders told the Pioneer Press on Tuesday that when Linwood was apprehended, “he turned around and squared up to fight with the officer. The officer was able to place Mr. Kaine under arrest and take him to the Ramsey County jail for booking.

Linwood is a student at Carleton College and goes by the nickname “Woody,” was released from the Ramsey County jail on Tuesday morning pending further investigation into the incident. St. Paul City Attorney Samuel Clark is reviewing the case for possible misdemeanor charges. Kaine is believed to he a part of the radical left-wing group known as Students for a Democratic Society or SDS.  This group advertised their counter-protests on campus billing it as – Make Racists Afraid Again! Counter-Protest the MN March 4 Trump.
SDS promoted the following on their website for the counter-protest, stating

Join Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and others in counter-protesting the Minnesota March 4 Trump rally at the state capitol on March 4th at noon. Meet up by the Capitol/Rice St. lightrail stop.

The election of Donald Trump has emboldened and energized the extreme right in this country. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center more than 1,000 hate crimes occured in the first month after Trump’s election and a full one-third of these hate crimes made direct reference to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Other acts of hate-based violence made reference to his comments about sexual assault and grabbing pussies. White Supremacists are coming out of the shadows and organizing more openly. Join SDS on March 4th to send them packing, to make racists afraid again, by counter-protesting the Minnesota March 4 Trump.

The movement against Trump is gaining steam nationally with increased militance. SDS sees this increased militancy as a good thing and want to encourage this development in Minnesota too. A diversity of tactics is needed in bringing forth a better world, and people should engage how they see fit.
