Sassy Liberty AMERICA’S FREEDOM FIGHTERS –

Companies are firing employees across the nation in response to a concerted online campaign to identify and maliciously publish private information about people purported to have participated in Saturday’s “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

This is known as a process called “doxing.”

However, the Twitter account @YesYoureRacist led the charge and has already be found to have maliciously unmasked people that have no affiliation with the rally or white supremacy or any of the groups present, identifying a professor 1,100 miles away for simply bearing a passing resemblance to one of those present.

Wrongly named by internet vigilantes, Kyle Quinn was inundated with vulgar messages on his social media accounts. People demanding his job and in some instances his head, these social justice warriors even posted his home address on the various social media networks. Quinn is now bearing the consequences of the reckless spreading of misinformation and outright lies.

Fearing for their safety, Quinn and his wife stayed with a colleague this past weekend.

Another Berkley man, Cole White, has been fired from his job at Top Dog hot dog restaurant where he worked as a cook. It has been determined that he may also have been wrongly identified, not involved in any violence, yet outed for a passing resemblance after his picture was posted on Twitter. The restaurant posted a window sign reading –

Effective Saturday 12th August, Cole White no longer works at Top Dog. The actions of those in Charlottesville are not supported by Top Dog. We believe in individual freedom and voluntary association for everyone.

While I absolutely agree with the ability for people and businesses to choose with whom they associate by voluntary means, causing a man to lose his job over malicious untruths is malicious and despicable in the extreme.

Now it seems others are giving the owner of this Twitter account a taste of his own medicine, doxing him in return.  According to “4Chan users,” the owner of the Yes I’m Racist twitter profile is one Logan Smith, he is an employee at Progress North Carolina Action and a HuffPost contributor.

Smith confirmed his identity on CNN with Brooke Baldwin on Monday. Smith stated on CNN when asked why he took it upon himself to begin calling people out, doxing them –

“…angry men with torches, they’re not hiding anymore. They’re not wearing their hoods anymore. If they are really so proud of their white supremacist belief, then I think their communities should know who these people are.”

Baldwin congratulated Smith and wished him more scalps with his “name and shame” effort, stating –

“Good on you, Logan Smith. Keep doing it.”

Smith then proclaimed that his belief that white people, in particular, must bear a significant responsibility for calling out bigotry when they perceive it – Smith went on to explain that white people, in particular, must take responsibility for calling out bigotry:

I think that everyone has a responsibility to stand up against bigotry. I’m probably not the person you would expect to be running an anti-racist Twitter account, but white people, in particular, have a responsibility to stand up against white supremacy, because if we don’t, if we don’t challenge bigotry whenever we see it, then we are being silently complicit in it.

Smith’s employer, Progress NC Actions is a state affiliate of Progress Now.  The groups is a 501(c)(4) advocacy group dedicated to “promot[ing] progressive ideas and causes.”

Smith is also a contributor to HuffPost and ironically has run several pieces condemning the practice of doxing. It seems the practice is only condemned when it is done to people whose ideologies they approve of is the victim.  At the time of publication, Smith is still an HuffPost contributor and gainfully employed by Progress NC Actions – unlike his wrongfully accused victims.
