World leaders gathered to pay respects to the recently departed Israeli Prime Minister and President Shimon Peres. Perese was the ninth President of Israel and a member of 12 different cabinets in a career that spanned over seven decades of statesmanship.  Rulers, regents, presidents, diplomats and courtiers from around the world gathered for a solemn farewell to one of the world’s giants.  Leaders from France, Germany, Egypt and even Palestine gathered to share in the memory of Peres.

As usual, Clinton had a commanding presence at the gathering — but not for the typical reasons. Instead, Twitter was having a laugh at the former President’s expense.  “Here’s a photo of Bill Clinton wearing a yarmulke that looks like it just fell on his head and he’s too mad to move it,” wrote Twitter user Riley Fox.

Columnist EJ Dickson chirped that seeing Bill Clinton in a yarmulke like that was like seeing, “every one of your goyische exes who couldn’t figure out how to pronounce ‘Chanukah.’

But then he spoke and things got even better!

 

And of course, no late-stage Bill Clinton controversy is complete without at least a minor oral gaffe. In this case, Bill Clinton meant to give a kind compliment to the deceased but just barely managed to squeeze his foot inside his mouth while doing so.

While making sure to call the former Israeli leader a “wise champion of our common humanity,” he also managed to give some credence to the common complaint that the man had far too much optimism and good spirit for his Palestinian interlocutors.

 

“Critics described him as a naive, over-optimistic dreamer,” the former Commander-In-Chief began. “They were only wrong about the naive part.”
