Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Rep. Richard Hudson, R-North Carolina are pushing forward to enact a new law on what is known as concealed carry reciprocity.

This means all states will be required to recognize concealed carry permits from other states.  Currently, 41 states have at least partial reciprocity laws.

According to Kerry Picket of the Daily Caller, Sen. Cornyn’s bill is expected to be an upper-chamber companion to Rep. Richard Hudson’s National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which was introduced into the house in January. Rep. Hudson’s bill would allow residents of New York and other states to carry a firearm in their home states.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.)

This move has been attempted in the past but they are choosing to move forward at this time because they believe under President Trump’s leadership the bill has a good chance of moving forward.

Rep. Cornyn states –

I think we have a better chance now than we’ve had previously, obviously, because I think we have a president that I think who will sign it into law.”

White House officials confirm that this administration does support national concealed carry reciprocity.  President Trump received massive support from Second Amendment rights supporters during the 2016 Presidential election, including a high-profile endorsement from the National Rifle Association, and continues to do so.

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC)

The bill has received much support from pro-Second Amendment groups and the NRA, though there are still details that need to be ironed out.  One of them is the proposal of allowing residents in states that do not issue concealed carry permits to legally carry by obtaining an out-of-state non-resident permit.

According to Cornyn, the bill is widely supported by Republicans in both the Senate and the House. However, the legislation faces the major hurdle of gun control loving, freedom hating Democrats. Support is needed from at least 8 Senate Democrats to reach the required 60-vote benchmark.

Sen Cornyn believes that the Democratic Senator from West Virginia, Joe Manchin will support the legislation but the rest of them are up for debate at this time.

God Bless.
