Rest In Peace…

The great George Michael, former Wham member and pop star, has passed away at the age of 53. The singer’s publicist reported that he passed away peacefully at his home according to BBC News.

“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.

“The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

The 53-year-old rose to fame as a member of Wham!, known for their hits Careless Whisper, Club Tropicana, Last Christmas and so many others.

Michael – whose real name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou – sold more than 100 million albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.

Michael broke through with Wham from 1981-96, leaving for solo success and an iconic string of songs that were mainstays of the MTV era in the 1980s. Videos for “Faith” and “I Want Your Sex” highlighted the sexuality in his solo career, while he would end up stepping away from a starring role in his videos in lieu of some supermodels for “Freedom ’90.” His later career was possibly overshadowed by high-profile run-ins with the law, but the singer’s talents and accomplishments wouldn’t be forgotten.

He will be missed.

Rest in peace brother and thanks for the memories…

God Bless.
