Residents in Illinois who support banning guns in schools are now saying the sign that’s being placed at school entrances announcing the gun ban are scary because they have the silhouette of a gun.

The State of Illinois passed a law banning guns on school grounds and require then to post a 4×6 sign at all entrances. It’s a simple sign, with the black silhouette of a pistol with the red circle and slash in front of it. But hilariously, some folks say the sign frightens them.

“The image can be frightening, Superintendent John Byrne said, “but if it keeps the world safer, that’s OK. The No. 1 thing we do for kids in general is keep their school safe. We don’t want schools to become like airports but we should make some reasonable efforts. If it’s reasonable to tell people this is a safe, no-gun zone, then we’ll do it.”

Others claim the sign reminds them of Newtown or Sandy Hook, and that it’s “startling” and “alarming.” Byrne also amazingly claimed that “older people” are less “aware of symbols” than kids and the terrifying sign might be more “glaring” to adults.

The ridiculous intention – lawmakers claim – is to notify CCW holders they can’t bring their weapons on the property. Illinois began accepting applications and issuing CCW permits at the beginning of the year. While required in public schools, resident can expect the “no guns” sign to start popping up everywhere, as paranoid anti-gunners overreact.

I won’t go into the nonsensical notion that criminals are going to abide by this stupid sign. The fact that the silhouette of a gun frightens and confuses these people is all we need to get a measure of their intellect.
