As new satellite footage shows North Korea’s nuclear site primed and ready for a test, at least one expert says Seattle would be the “ultimate target” for a nuclear weapon from the rogue nation.

Washington State allows evacuation plans for every disaster scenario except a nuclear bomb. Former state Rep. Dick Nelson remembers the prevailing thinking in the legislature at the time concerning response plans in the event of nuclear war, Fox News reports.

“You are really sending a message that you’re getting ready to do something maybe yourself,” Nelson said.

The law passed in 1984, seven years before the end of the Cold War. It was the opposite approach taken by President Ronald Reagan, whose peace through strength doctrine helped lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

A current Washington state senator says the current law is irresponsible and naïve.

“I think it’s ridiculous and silly,” says state Rep. Mark Miloscia, “And sort of the head-in-the-sand mentality. If it has a probability of happening, prepare for it.”

Seattle could be in the crosshairs if North Korea’s leader, Kim Jung Un, ever did the unthinkable. Naval Base Kitsap reportedly has roughly 1,300 nuclear warheads — almost one-quarter of the U.S. arsenal — making it the largest stockpile of nukes in the world. The Puget Sound is also home to Joint Base Lewis McChord, home to the important Stryker Brigade. With the headquarters of Boeing, Microsoft and Amazon, the region is a high-tech hub.

Richard Ellings, the President of the National Bureau of Asian Research, says the missiles North Korea currently possesses can reach any part of Japan and South Korea. But it’s the intercontinental missiles the country is testing that are a concern for the West Coast of the U.S.

“There are missiles that are under development … that will certainly be able to hit the West Coast and especially Seattle, which is an ultimate target,” Ellings said.

Ellings said because of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Boeing, a Trident submarine base and a major population center, Seattle is a prime target.

“We are the ultimate target to hold hostage, from a North Korean perspective,” Ellings said.

Former Washington Senator Slade Gorton said he agrees that Seattle residents face an ever-increasing level of insecurity from the unstable dictatorship an ocean away.

The closest U.S. state to North Korea, Hawaii, is evaluating existing nuclear attack response plans.

The Pentagon stated that the latest launch over the weekend, by North Korea, flew 1,000 miles higher than NASA’s International Space Station. It was then able to re-enter earth’s atmosphere and splash down just 60 miles from Russia.

It is 5,005 miles to Seattle from North Korea and with the latest launch, North Korea has proven they have the fuel systems for their ICBM’s to reach that and further.

North Korean nukes and the Kim regime’s resilience are very much realities that the Trump administration must confront.

North Korea’s nuclear infrastructure has become more sophisticated, it has grown increasingly difficult to design a military campaign that could eliminate the complete threat.

North Korea would respond by unleashing a barrage of artillery against the South Korean capital of Seoul, which is one of the largest cities in the world and roughly as far from the demilitarized zone separating the two countries as Washington, D.C., is from Baltimore. The North Korean military could place chemical weapons on that artillery. It could also target U.S. military bases in South Korea and Japan with ballistic missiles—potentially nuclear-tipped missiles.

POTUS Trump and his administration need to make a decision, before North Korea has full capabilities to strike 1st.  Sanctions and relying on China have been ignored by both parties and have yielded 0 results, that is the reality of the situation.
