Kirkuk, IRAQ — Several mass graves of hundreds of civilians executed by Islamic State have been discovered in an old U.S.base, west of Kirkuk, officials have reported.

“We are now standing at al-Bakara base, that was once a headquarter for U.S. troops before being a site for IS to carry out executions,” Rakan Saeed, acting governor of Kirkuk, said in press remarks. “It’s the brutality of terrorists who executed no less than 400 victims, some of whom in red suits while others in civilian clothes.”

Saeed urged the Iraqi government and United Nations to check the mass graves and identify the victims, Iraqi News reports.

In October, Iraqi troops ran into a mass grave, composed of relics of 50 army and police personnel in Hawija, southwestern Kirkuk. Paramilitary troops announced, earlier the month, running into ten mass graves containing relics of security personnel and civilians who were executed by IS.

America’s Freedom Fighters previously reported that a mass grave of ISIS terrorists was discovered at a district retaken by Iraqi security forces in western Mosul as operations to clear the region from militants reach the final stages.

Hassan said the dead bodies were carried to a forensic authority department.

Islamic State has lost hundreds of fighters and senior leaders since Iraqi troops, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, launched an offensive in October to retake the city. Since the launch of the campaign, dozens of mass graves of civilians and security members executed by ISIS have been discovered, Iraqi News reports.

AFF reported that ISIS militants killed at least 64 civilians, including women and children, while trying to flee battles with Iraqi security forces in western Mosul to the eastern side.

The Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights said the civilians were trying to cross the Tigris River, which divides the city, to the eastern side which Iraqi forces took over in January, but were shot dead by ISIS snipers.

The ISIS terrorists also took civilian prisoners according some of the survivors off the attack.

They said more than 40 families were trying to cross the river, but at least 64 dead bodies washed ashore.

The observatory quoted a security source in Sallamiya that the corpses bore signs of gunshots, and that he was predicting more dead bodies to resurface, Iraqi News reports.

Earlier on Sunday, BasNews quoted Ahmed al-Obaidi, a Federal Police Captain, saying that ISIS militants had shot dead 16 Iraqi women who were trying to flee al-Rifaie district in western Mosul, adding that 30 other families in the same district.

IN correspondent, Mohamed Mostafa reports that Iraqi government and United Nations counts put the number of Iraqis displaced since the launch of the offensive to retake Mosul from IS in October 2016 at at least 600,000. Nineveh municipal officials say there are 600,000 others who fled to relatives or rented residences and therefore had not been registered.

Daesh (ISIS) has faced accusations by the U.N., Iraqi government and aid agencies of using civilians as human shields. Concerns for civilian lives had been a major reason behind occasional slowdowns of security operations and unfortunately some have been killed in operations by Iraqi forces and the allied U.S.-led coalition.

The militants have now been eradicated from all but a handful of areas in the western half of Mosul including the Old City, where Islamic State is expected to make its last stand, taking advantage of narrow streets and its dense population.

Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul said the area controlled by ISIS was no more than 9 percent of west Mosul.

Iraqi commanders predict Mosul could be retaken before the end of this month.

These poor civilians are so desperate that they have to resort to eating weeds to stay alive.

It looks like Mosul will be cleansed of these ISIS savages soon, however, the damage, destruction and terror that they have put these innocent people will last for eternity.

Col. Mortada Hassan, from the Iraqi army, told BasNews that the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service forces found a mass grave containing what are believed to be the relics of 20 members of the Islamic State’s Hisbah (vigilantees) group at al-Haramat.

Iraq’s High Commission for Human Rights asked, in the same month, for international assistance regarding the handling of mass graves, capabilities and expertise in exhuming the relics, taking DNA samples and identifying victims families.

Operations were launched in late September to liberate Hawija, before Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced freeing the town in October.

Iraqi troops managed to retake several Islamic State strongholds including Mosul and Tal Afar in Nineveh, Hawija in Kirkuk and Annah and Qaim in Anbar.

It’s insane over there.

God Bless.
