Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said he is willing to meet with Donald Trump, just months after comparing the Republican presidential candidate to Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

During a taped television interview in Mexico on Tuesday Nieto said, “Yes, I would meet with him.”

“I have never met him. I can’t agree with some of the things he has said, but I will be absolutely respectful and will seek to work with whomever becomes the next president of the United States,” Nieto said, Reuters reports.

Trump has sparked outrage with his campaign vow to build a wall along the southern U.S. border to keep out illegal immigrants and drugs, and to make Mexico pay for it.

Kim Smith at Conservative Tribune points out that securing the border has been a key issue for Trump since he announced his candidacy last summer. Trump said when Mexico sends people, it’s not sending its best, and claimed many crossing the border have a lot of problems. Those problems include drugs, crime, and rape.

To combat these problems, Trump has promised to build a wall along the border and deport the millions of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. He has also said he would make Mexico pay for building his proposed wall by taxing money from Mexican workers in the U.S.

Trump has shown that he has plans on backing down on any of his ideas regarding Mexico and illegal immigration, and it looks as though Nieto realizes this.

It’s not the first time a Mexican leader has changed his tune toward Trump. Former Mexican presidents Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderón have also criticized Trump. In May, Fox said his country would not pay for Trump’s wall. However, he has adopted a more pragmatic position toward Trump as it appears he and his ideas are not going to change.

VOTE FOR DONALD J. TRUMP AND MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
