BREAKING: Multiple DEAD After Gunman Opens Fire Right Near School- Authorities To Address Nation About Suspect

Three people have been killed and two others were injured in a shooting near an elementary school outside of Salt Lake City in Sandy Tuesday afternoon, according to police reports.

Sgt. Jason Nielsen of the Sandy City Police Department said adults and juveniles were involved in the incident, FOX 13 Salt Lake City reported.

“Preceding this event, what appears to have took place is a good Samaritan saw a female with two juveniles, stopped to help them, to transport them out of the area. During that time, the suspect actually rammed the good Samaritan’s vehicle, bringing it to a stop in the roadway,” Nielso said. “[The] suspect exited his vehicle and [began] shooting.”

A public information officer for Sandy Police said the shooter is one of the three people confirmed dead.

The shooting took place around 4 p.m. outside a residential area, according to Sandy Police. The shooting happened in an area about 30 miles south of downtown Salt Lake City.

Nielsen said a woman and a juvenile boy were killed in the shooting, along with the gunman.

“There’s another juvenile male who’s been transported to the hospital in critical condition and one juvenile female transported in stable [condition],” Nielsen said.

Police have not released the identities or ages of the victims.

Police are interviewing witnesses and officers are expected to be at the scene for most of the night.

“My concern was when I realized the shooting was right here on this little hill behind me. There’s an elementary school just down this hill, and my fear was ‘Were there little kids walking home?’,” said Andrea Workman, who lives in the neighborhood. “It could’ve been much worse. It already is tragic. I could’ve been so much worse with all these children walking home.”

“Because the incident occurred after school had let out for the afternoon, many students found shelter in neighboring homes and businesses,” Canyons District wrote on Twitter. “CSD is asking that anyone who is providing shelter to Brookwood students to please bring them to the school to be reunited w/ their families.”

Resident Colby Corbett was in his backyard waiting for his 8-year-old son to walk home from school when he heard 20 to 30 gunshots within a few seconds.

“I was panicking bad,” Corbett said. “I thought it was like a gun battle.”

Our heart’s and prayers go out to the families of the victims.

This is a developing story.
