In a press conference held on Friday, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions with Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coats, stated that the Department of Justice may pursue journalists to determine the source of leaked classified information that continues to plague the Trump administration. This announcement follows as leaks continue to occur at an alarming rate under the Trump administration.

“In the first six months of this Administration, DOJ has already received nearly as many criminal referrals involving unauthorized disclosures of classified information as we received in the last three years combined. At their suggestion, one of the things we are doing is reviewing policies affecting media subpoenas.

We respect the important role that the press plays and will give them respect, but it is not unlimited. They cannot place lives at risk with impunity. We must balance their role with protecting our national security and the lives of those who serve in our intelligence community, the armed forces, and all law abiding Americans.”

Sessions advised that the DOJ has tripled their efforts to investigate these leaks and determine their source.  He added that he has “listened to career investigators and prosecutors about how to most successfully investigate and prosecute these matters.”

The leaks place President Trump in a precarious situation. How can one be expected to govern a nation without the expectations of privacy? No government can be effective when its leaders cannot discuss sensitive matters in confidence.  The mainstream media in this country is actively complicit in a coup d’etat to overthrow a Constitutionally elected president.

Even Senator Mark Warner (VA-D) acknowledges this, stating the leaks of transcripts of calls between President Trump and world leaders is “absolutely troubling.”

Warner states –

“A president of the United States, a governor would tell us they’ve got to be able to have confidential conversations … and I think it was disgraceful that those [came out]. Whether that is Intel or Judicial [committees] looking into it, somebody ought to.”
