R&B singer Sevyn Streeter learned a hard lesson from the Philadelphia 76ers after she arrived at a game to sing our National Anthem wearing a shirt supporting Black Lives Matter.

According to TheBlaze, Streeter was scheduled to sing before the home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder when just minutes before the game, she was told her services wouldn’t be required.

“I’d say two minutes before we were about to walk out … the organization told me that I could not wear my shirt while singing the national anthem at their game,” the R&B singer told the Associated Press by phone. “I was never given any kind of dress code. I was never asked beforehand to show my wardrobe.”

She may not have been given a dress code, but the 76ers were just recently embarrassed during a preseason game when another singer wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt took a knee before the audience while she performed the National Anthem. In other words, after receiving serious backlash from the previous stunt, team officials put the kibosh on political protests in their arena.

Rather than have to deal with the fallout, the 76ers had a member of their dance squad sing the anthem instead. The team later released a statement about the incident.

“The Philadelphia 76ers organization encourages meaningful actions to drive social change. We use our games to bring people together, to build trust and to strengthen our communities. As we move from symbolic gestures to action, we will continue to leverage our platform to positively impact our community,” the Sixers said in a statement.

Streeter was none too pleased about the team’s decision because she wanted her fifteen seconds of fame to be able to cause a problem and get in the spotlight for it.

“I also felt it was important to express the ongoing challenges and ongoing injustice we face as a black community within the United States of America — that’s very important to me,” Streeter said. “Yes, we live in the greatest country in the world but there are issues that we cannot ignore. This can’t be ignored.”

Perhaps not, but what she and other “activists” need to remember is that sports are supposed to be a sanctuary from politics and activism, and people seriously just don’t want to hear about it when watching their favorite team. Just ask the NFL, who’s seeing their ratings drop faster than Hillary Clinton’s favorability ratings as Wikileaks keeps dropping bombs on her.

Good on the 76ers for putting their fans’ interests above those of social justice warriors. It’s about time that adults started standing up and telling the children to quit their bitching.
