An armed suspect was shot and killed by Oregon Police after a report of a “a suspicious vehicle” was reported.

A Sherwood Police officer initially responded and attempted to contact the driver. The driver fled in the vehicle, while firing multiple times, and retreated deeper into the property.

Authorities were informed around 1:30 p.m. of the presence of “a suspicious vehicle,” appearing to be a pickup truck according to a video from KATU 2, driving in a field near Sherwood, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Tactical Negotiations Team contacted the suspect vehicle in the field and, during the encounter, fired upon the suspect. Law enforcement on scene attempted life-saving measures but the suspect was pronounced deceased. An AR-style rifle was recovered from inside the suspect vehicle.

“This was a very fast-moving, changing and rapidly evolving situation involving our SWAT and the suspect,” Jeff Talbot with Washington County Sheriff’s Office said. “We’re going to be piecing together what happened, and that information will come out once we confirm it.”

The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Remi Sabbe of Tigard.

“An AR-style rifle was recovered from inside the suspect vehicle,” authorities said.

An autopsy on Sabbe’s body was conducted Saturday and the resulted are expected to be released Tuesday, Detective Robert L. Rookhuÿzen told Fox News.

Officers involved in the episode were placed “on administrative leave per agency protocol,” the sheriff’s office said. Their names will not be released until next week, Rookhuÿzen said.
