The surveillance video begins with the suspect’s car pulling through the hotel driveway, then quickly cuts to show him walking through the doors of the casino.  He is seen donning a hoodie, a wig, a winter hat, and a mask that covered more than half of his face. He is also holding a white bag in the video which he later uses to hold the money.

Las Vegas police release image of gunman who robbed Bellagio

A still from surveillance video shows a gunman who robbed the Bellagio Hotel and Casino on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

He continues to walk and can eventually be seen on the casino floor just prior to making his way to the poker cage. The video then shows him approach the area where the attendant is standing where he leans over the counter.  The bag can be seen in his left hand while his right hand, presumably the hand holding the handgun is unseen on camera.

The LVMPD released surveillance video showing the suspect and robbery at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The video shows the suspect pausing for a moment and a person just to his left moving a tray of casino chips away from him. It then cuts to an aerial shot showing the suspect engaged with a person behind the counter.  That person appears to be handing him money which he, in turn, stuffs in the bag before quickly leaving. The suspect is then seen running through the casino and making a quick getaway through the same doors he entered just moments prior.  He does not stop running until he makes it to his car and proceeds to drive away with his ill-gotten gains.

The LVMP have stated during the course of the investigation that they feel “comfortable and confident” that the suspect will be located and brought to justice. LVMP Department Capt. John Pelletier said another person accompanied the robber in the car, but Pelletier said it appeared the person was there “against his will” but did not give any additional details.

The robbery itself caught the eye of none other than actor James Woods who happened to be gambling at a nearby poker table when the robbery occurred. Woods took to Twitter to tell of the experience singing the praises of the quick thinking Bellagio staff.

Woods initially tweeted he was playing poker at the casino when “a guy walks up with a gun and robs the cage thirty feet from us.”

He then tweeted kudos to the Bellagio staff stating they “were fantastic. They surrendered the money quietly, so no customers would get hurt. Nobody even realized it was happening. Excellent staff, cool under pressure.”

In 2010, the Bellagio was robbed by a man who became known as the “Biker Bandit.” The man stole $1.5 million in chips from the craps pit while wearing a motorcycle helmet.  He fled on a motorcycle. Anthony Carleo was eventually caught and is now serving several years in prison for his crimes.

The Bellagio was also the site of a famous fictional heist in the movie “Ocean’s Eleven.”  The 2001 remake of the film featured George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon — and the heist aimed to rob the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand.
