President Trump has condemned the Barcelona terror attack on Thursday, vowing the U.S. “will do whatever is necessary to help.”

U.S. authorities are monitoring the unfolding situation as horrific images emerge of the carnage at the scene where a white van rammed into dozens of people in a popular tourist district. There are reports of numerous fatalities and dozens injured, Fox News reports.

Police have arrested Driss Oukabir, a Moroccan citizen who lived in Spain legally, as a suspect in the attack. Oukabir rented the van that was used in the attack, according to El Pais.

Interior Minister Joaquim Forn, condemned the attack, adding the number of 13 dead and about 50 injured may change because there are serious injuries.

The vehicle hit pedestrians in Las Ramblas, a busy tree-lined promenade in the center of the city, the Ministry of the Interior said.

The street is one of the most well-known and popular parts of the city, visited by tourists and locals alike.

President Trump condemned the attack, saying in a tweet “The United States condemns the terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, and will do whatever is necessary to help. Be tough & strong, we love you!”

This is a developing story.
