It seems there is more to the story of Colin Kaepernick’s continued unemployment and his girlfriend’s racism may have cost him a position with the Baltimore Ravens at least that’s the story according to Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis.

Lewis added the new twist in the story to the drama-ridden former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback.  He notes that much of Kaepernick’s issues are self-induced and he is not the victim that he portrays himself to be.

Showtime’s season premiere of the show “Inside the NFL” included coverage of  Kaepernick’s failure to sign with a team since opting out of his contract with the 49ers back in March.

Lewis states Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti was at one time open to hiring the controversial athlete until his girlfriend Nessa Diab tweeted a racist “Django Unchained” tweet.

Diab tweeted a picture on August 2 that showed both Lewis and Biscotti as counterparts to Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio’s characters from the Quentin Tarantino movie from 2012.

Jackson’s character is a slave named Stephen who defends plantation owner Calvin Candie.

Lewis states

“When me and Steve Bisciotti were talking, this is what we were talking about. We were talking about giving this kid an opportunity to get back in the National Football League. Look, this is what I wanted to share with people. I have been fighting for this kid behind the table like nobody has. I’ve never been against Colin Kaepernick, but I am against the way he’s done it.

Then his girl goes out and put out this racist gesture and doesn’t know we are in the back office about to try to get this guy signed. Steve Bisciotti has said it himself, ‘How can you crucify Ray Lewis when Ray Lewis is the one calling for Colin Kaepernick?’ “

It’s safe to say the Baltimore Ravens attempts to avoid a “distraction” by signing Colin Kaepernick will just result in more of a distraction. The Ravens were in need of a quarterback when Joe Flacco suffered a back injury. John Harbaugh said Kaepernick was an option to replace him. However, shortly after that, word got out that while Harbaugh and GM Ozzie Newsome were interested in pursuing Kaepernick, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti was hesitant.

Both Biscotti and team president Dick Cass stated they had been speaking to fans and sponsors about the possibility of signing Kaepernick to the team. Giants owner John Mara had previously expressed his concerns about the types of fan mail that was being received for Kaepernick — it was not positive. Mara and the Giants were willing to stand by Josh Brown even after his multiple incidents of domestic violence. For both, they did not take action until it became public knowledge.

Biscotti stated that the team had already received public backlash from Ray Rice’s domestic violence incident.  They had to weigh whether they were willing to risk more with more with Kaepernick.

Ray Lewis had spoken at length to Kaepernick about taking the flag out of his protest, telling he should not talk about what he does off the field.  The field is for work.  All this in spite of the fact that Kaepernick has been working out regularly awaiting an opportunity.
