Officials from Japan, South Korea and the U.S. met with the U.N. General Assembly today, they condemned North Korea’s 5th nuke test as well as their flagrant disregard for previous U.N. sanctions.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se described Pyongyang’s tests and ballistic-missile launches as an international security threat and a hazard to regional stability.
“Our message today is crystal clear: No. 1, North Korea cannot continue to deride the Security Council and the United Nations…No. 2, Kim Jong Un and [the] North Korean regime cannot get away with all their misbehavior and provocations.” ~ South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se
Kerry also chimed in, stating that, “The global community will not be intimidated and will not pull back from our obligations. the US will continue its partnership with Tokyo and Seoul in the effort to roll “back the provocative, reckless behavior of” the DPRK. “
So far, all that they have done is placed sanctions down and, “highly condemn” North Korea, with every successful launch. Leaving one to ponder, when will the world wake up and put an end to the DPRK? North Korea continues to do as they please and they have 0 intention of stopping, regardless of all the strong words from the U.N.
US Secretary of State John Kerry went and called for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to cease missile launches and nuclear testing immediately, so that denuclearization discussions can resume in good faith.
The only light that came from the meeting was that the 3 Nations have declared, “We will make it clear to a reckless dictator that all he is doing through his actions is isolating his country, isolating his people and depriving his people of genuine economic opportunity.”
I fail to see any real hammer at this point and it seems to be business as usual, the DPRK could care less about the babblings of the three nations, because so far, that’s all that it is.
The only leader that seemed to understand the significance of threats from the DPRK was South Korea.
Pyongyang’s actions “a ticking time bomb” and expressed concern that North Korea’s actions could have consequences outside the Korean peninsula. “What we see is a looming perfect storm that may not only pounce on Northeast Asia but sweep over the entire world,”
Kashida provided some strong words as well, he added that a tough approach must be taken so that the DPRK understands that its continued disregard for international norms will not go unanswered.
It seems that slowly, the nations are seeing what the rest of the world has been seeing for a very long time, that the DPRK could care less about words and the only thing they will understand is action.
