Eid-Al-Adha-Sacrifice-3

At sundown last night was the start of the holiest of days for Jews, Yom Kippur. Starting today is Eid al-Adha, the end of Hajj, the time many Muslims make the journey to Mecca. President Obama sent out a message on the Hajj and Eid al-Adha, but no mention of Yom Kippur. For the President of the United States, that is a major message all in itself.

Eid al-Adha is the Festival of Sacrifice, marking when Abraham was supposed to have attempted sacrificing Hagar and Ishmael in the valley of Mecca by abandoning them. This was supposed to be on the orders of Allah. The two were saved by Hagar praying and water coming from the ground.

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement and the Sabbath of Sabbaths. There is 25 hours of fasting, while Jews show repentance through Teshuva. Teshuva is regretting sins committed, resolving not commit them again and confessing them to God. It is the end of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.

Message from Obama

Here, via the White House, is the message from Obama.

Michelle and I would like to extend our best wishes to Muslims in the United States and around the world who are celebrating Eid al-Adha, and to congratulate those performing the Hajj this year.

As our Muslim neighbors and friends gather for Eid celebrations, Muslim Americans are among the millions of pilgrims joining one of the world’s largest and most diverse gatherings.  Hajj brings together Muslims from around the world – Sunni and Shiite – to share in reverent prayer, side by side.  It serves as a reminder that no matter one’s tribe or sect, race or religion, gender or age, we are equals in humanity.

On Eid, Muslims continue the tradition of donating to the poor and joining efforts with other faith communities in providing assistance to those suffering from hunger, sickness, oppression, and conflict.  Their service is a powerful example of the shared roots of the world’s Abrahamic faiths and how our communities can come together in shared peace, with dignity and a sense of justice.

On behalf of the American people, we extend our warmest greetings during this holiday.  May the prayers of peace made by the Hajj pilgrims and those of all faiths around the world be heard and granted.  Eid Mubarak.

Obama is well aware that the Koran says to kill all non-Muslims, so this does not allow Muslims to view all religions as equal. The treatment of their women shows that they do not see them as equals. The President is trying to continue the “religion of peace” lie.
