Obama and the liberal gun haters have come to the realization that gun control legislation at the national level ain’t going to happen. So, they are desperately looking for some backdoor way to deny Americans their Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Enter the President’s nominee for Surgeon General: Dr. Vivek Murthy, a rabid anti-gun activist. What if you could declare gun violence a public health crisis?

On Tuesday, in a confirmation hearing before Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Dr. Murthy tried to downplay his role of anti-gun crusader. At least one lawmaker, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) questioned whether the doctor would use his position as a “bully pulpit for gun control.”

At issue are several well-publicized tweets from Dr. Murthy concerning his distaste for guns and gun ownership:

And Murthy is also the co-founder of Doctors for America which has an equally unconstitutional gun control agenda. He’s a little taste of what they’re all about:

As the nation mourns the fallen children and teachers of Sandy Hook Elementary School, we must take a stand against gun violence as a public health crisis that claims far too many lives. It’s time for common sense gun rules like background checks and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as a comprehensive plan to address gun violence including ensuring funding for research and data-collection on gun violence and ensuring that health care providers can ask patients about gun ownership in order to counsel them appropriately about safety measures.

Okay, this guy clearly doesn’t like guns, but does that mean he would have the power to do anything about it? The Gun Owners of America think so, issuing the following statement:

Make no mistake about it: Murthy is an anti-gun fanatic. Not only that, as Surgeon General, Murthy could channel huge amounts of taxpayer dollars to “junk science studies” intended to prove that guns should be banned.

Thanks to Harry Reid’s “nuclear option” blocking Murthy’s nomination is unlikely. By all accounts he “breezed through” Tuesday’s hearings. The Surgeon General is supposed to be an apolitical position, but Obama’s nominee has a radical political agenda. We don’t get to vote for or against him, but his actions could hurt our 2nd Amendment rights. Leave it to Big O to find yet another way around the Constitution.
