Earlier today, the world was shocked by the news that a terrorist ran a van into a crowd of people in Barcelona, Spain, killing over a dozen people and wounding even more, but the chaos didn’t end there.

According to the Daily Mail, police set up road block around the city to secure it, but things didn’t quite go as planned after another vehicle rammed through one of them. Apparently, a Ford Focus slammed into the road block, injuring three more officers.

Details are slim, but apparently the driver took off running after the crash.

From the Mail:

Three police officers have been run over at a roadblock in Barcelona following this afternoon’s terror attack.

According to reports in Spain, a Ford Focus broke through the roadblock, set up at entrances and exits to the city.

The driver escaped on foot, El Pais reports.

Police said shots were fired between occupants of the car and officers.

The news comes after two men rammed a white van into a crowd of people, which killed at least 13 people in what police are saying was a definite act of terror. At least 64 others were injured in the violent rampage, which left one of the suspects dead after a shootout with officers.

One witness told Sky News: “It was quite terrifying. All of a sudden scores of people ran towards us, hysterical, children hysterical… first of all they said someone had been shot. All of a sudden a second wave of people came down the street, we just ran, I lost my husband in the melee. The shops went into lockdown mode.”

She added: “We really had no idea what was going on other than that we needed to get ourselves out of there very quickly… there was just hundreds of people running away very quickly.”

Another said: “We were just told to run, it must have been quite close because… there was an immediate stampede to run away. We were just a minute away from it.”

Catalan emergency services have asked that nearby metro stations be closed. Here are some images of the scene.
