Three thuglets, Laniya Miller, 15, Ashaunti Butler, 15, and Dominique Battle, 16, asked a 36-year-old man for a ride to Childs Park on the night of March 30. He agreed to give the girls a ride but when he made a quick stop at a Walmart to pick up a few things he made a huge mistake. He left the thieves in his car with the motor running.

Of course the little thuglets stole the car.

About 3:30 a.m. March 31, a sheriff’s sergeant saw the Honda with its headlights off as it headed east on Sunset Point Road in Clearwater, west of U.S. 19, Tampa Bay Times reports. The sergeant tried to stop the car, but it continued south.

Another Pinellas sergeant spotted the car later and determined it was stolen in St. Petersburg. Deputies followed the car from a distance. Under Sheriff’s Office policy, deputies cannot pursue stolen cars.

The Honda eventually headed toward the Royal Palm North Cemetery off Gandy Boulevard, a dead end. At a sharp bend in the road about 4 a.m., the car stayed on a straight course and went into a pond.

Within five minutes, the Honda submerged in about 15 feet of water.

Of course, liberals are accusing the police of not doing enough to rescue the criminals. The girls died because of their own, foolish actions.

“It’s a bunch of junk,” the sheriff said Friday of the allegations. “Those deputies went in that water and tried to save those girls at their own peril.”

The Sheriff’s investigative reports indicate that deputies tried to reach the car. Deputy Jeff Clement wrote in his report: “Myself and other deputies began to enter the swampy water… the fact that the vehicle was still moving, along with the unstable ground and excessive water vegetation, made a rescue too risky for those involved.”

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office responded:

Unfortunately, some people are irresponsibly and falsely posting on Facebook that deputies did not attempt to rescue the 3 girls who tragically drowned while fleeing from the police in a stolen car a few weeks ago.

The sheriff stated at the time that deputies removed their gunbelts and clothes and tried to enter the water to rescue the girls, but the conditions in the water prevented them from doing so. This is exactly what happened, and we stand by that.

All video regarding the incident has been released, including the below clip that shows deputies who had taken off their duty gear in an effort to rescue the girls. The other video being shown omits this part that shows deputies who had entered the water in their effort to rescue the girls.

We are posting this clip with the hope that the false narrative being spread about this incident stops.

This video shows Deputy Tromer and Deputy Haase immediately after they attempted to rescue the occupants of a stolen vehicle that was driven into a pond at the Royal Palm Cemetery on March 31, 2016. Their rescue efforts were suspended due to the unsafe conditions.

A comment on the Facebook page sums it up nicely:

It is absolutely shameful you even have to come out and defend yourself against all these idiots. It was not surprising to learn these three girls had seven arrests between them – mostly for stealing cars.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Thank you for defending your officers!

That’s the price you pay for being a thug.
