A March 18 federal arrest warrant was issued for 25-year-old Jesse Sawyer Jr., of Troy, N.Y.

(PINELLAS PARK F.L.)  Jesse Sawyer Jr. is on the loose again after being captured by police officers on Thursday.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Sawyer, 25, who is accused of taking “selfies” of himself sexually abusing three young children. At least one of his young victims was under the age of five.

“We are talking about children who are literally only years old; very, very disturbing,” Troy police Capt. John Cooney said. “And about the worst that I have seen or heard in my time with the department.”

Troy police received a call on Thursday around 10:30 p.m. concerning Jesse Sawyer’s location. The caller stated Sawyer had signed into the Calvary Chapel mission in St. Petersburg using his real name. Troy police contacted Pinellas police informing them of Sawyer’s location. Pinellas tracked down Sawyer, and arrested him.

Pinellas police claim a request for electronic confirmation of the warrant was not received from the Troy police department for about an hour, so they called the FBI on the telephone.

“The person we spoke to at the FBI could not confirm the warrant and was making telephone calls to an unidentified agent to confirm this,” Pinellas police Sgt. Adam Geissenberger said. After about an hour of waiting, Sawyer was released, since they “knew where he was” if the warrant ever came through. Almost immediately after releasing Sawyer, Pinellas police received a call from the FBI that confirmed the warrant.

“A short while later we received confirmation for Sawyer,” Geissenberger said.

Troy police claim they faxed the warrant to Pinellas within a reasonable amount of time. It would seem that their decision to release the suspect was premature. Pinellas police returned to where they originally found Sawyer, and were unable to locate him. The FBI’s Tampa office said is assisting in the manhunt. At this time, Sawyer is considered on the run.

Sawyer is white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 160 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
